Where's the first programmer, Ada Lovelace? or the inventor of the
compiler, Grace Hopper?
How about the original six Eniac programmers, Kathleen McNulty Mauchly
Antonelli, Jean Jennings Bartik, Frances Snyder Holberton, Marlyn
Wescoff Meltzer, Frances Bilas Spence and Ruth Lichterman Teitelbaum?
Lots of good name possibilities there.
For fun, you should also look up Radia Perlman, Jean E Sammet, Sally
Floyd, Barbara Liskov, and Irma Wyman.
And if you're interested in living pioneers, ACM just inducted Susan
Landau (Sun) and Tracy Camp (Colorado School of Mines) into their roster
of distinguished computer engineers.
My personal hero(ine) is Helen Grenier.
